San Diego: The San Diego track was technical and well suited to Ryan's riding style. There were a few jumps to separate the men from the boys and Ryan was doing most of them. In the Pre-qualifier Ryan and his teammate Daniel Sani were on the gate together. Ryan nearly grabbed the holeshot but Daniel edged ahead of Ryan out of the turn. Ryan quickly took control and made a pass down the first rhythm section heading into the first triple. It was an MB1 freight train as they ran around the track out front and finished 1st and 2nd with Ryan taking the win and setting the stage for good things to come. In Heat 2 Ryan had 6th gate pick and he lined upright where he did in the pre-qualifier. When the gate dropped Ryan got a great jump aboard his MB1/Tokyo Mods motor and headed into the first turn in 3rd place behind Pro Circuit Kawasaki riders Villopoto and Langston! Going into the first rhythm section a few riders had a little better drive and passed Ryan. He charged back and within a couple of laps passed Sleeter and then Facciotti. Now running 4th, Ryan appeared to be closing the gap on 3rd place rider Red Bull KTM's Nathan Ramsey. A laps later, Ramsey went down giving up 3rd place to Ryan. Ramsey got up quickly and caught back up to Ryan on the last lap, but Ryan charged hard and held on for 3rd with Ramsey biting at his rear wheel over the finish line. Lining up for the Main Event Ryan once again had 6th gate pick and lined up right where he did in the prior two races. When the gate dropped Ryan got an incredible jump and looked as though he might have a holeshot, but Factory Honda's Andrew Short and KTM's Mike Alessi really held it on through the turn. This time Ryan's MB1/Tokyo Mods charged out of turn one comfortably in 3rd place with KTM's Ramsey giving chase. On lap two Ramsey put an aggressive pass on Ryan nearly knocking him over a berm in the turn before the whoops. Ryan regained his composure and charged after Ramsey down the whoops not realizing that the impact had broken his front brake lever completely off. As Ryan flew into the next turn he nearly went over the tuff blocks as he reached for the brakes only to find the most important one one was missing. Unable to slow down on the highly technical track, Ryan rode the rest of the race in frustration as he watched rider after rider go by. Ryan managed to finish in 16th, but must have still been going pretty fast as Grant Langston who was running 2nd had a few choice words for Ryan at the finish as he must have had some difficulty lapping him even though Ryan was giving up every inside line and rolling several of the jumps.
